Have you ever thought what it would be like to be a King or a Queen?

Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly lavender’s green When you are King, dilly dilly I shall be Queen Who told you so, dilly dilly who told you so? ’Twas my own heart, dilly dilly that told me so Call up your friends, dilly, dilly set them to work Some to the plough, dilly dilly some to the fork Some to the hay, dilly dilly some to thresh corn Whilst you and I, dilly dilly keep ourselves warm

Have you ever thought what it would be like to be a King or a Queen? Well, Jack Know-it-all did. In fact he dreamt about being a King all the time. He thought that he was the kind of person who would make a perfect King.

He certainly knew how to tell people what to do. He liked wearing the finest clothes and he liked spending money. He thought he was a grand fellow and that you had to be someone important to talk to him -don’t you know? If you weren’t someone special Jack stuck his nose in the air and walked past you.

Now Jack had a sweetheart; Molly Perfect and she wanted to be a Queen. She thought that she would make a fine Queen because she was kind, she liked to meet people, she was very wise, and everyone came to her for advice. She liked to help everyone no matter who they were, or whether they were working in the fields or the kitchen or the gardens. Molly was happy to do anything as long as it helped other people.

Wherever she went everyone treated her as their friend. Now Jack came to notice that people loved to talk to Molly and to listen to what she had to say … and that everyone loved her. Jack was so miserable. He had a lot of money, and many fine clothes but no one liked him.

HE WAS IMPORTANT but no one came to see HIM for advice and he didn’t have many friends. He only knew people who always agreed with what he said, but secretly they made fun of him and giggled when he walked past. Who do you think would make the best King or Queen? Jack asked Molly what he should do if he wanted to be King and this is what she sang:

Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly lavender’s green When you are King, dilly dilly I shall be Queen Who told you so, dilly dilly who told you so? ’Twas my own heart, dilly dilly that told me so Lavender’s blue, lavender’s green When you are King, I shall be Queen Who told you so, who told you so? It was my own heart, that told me so Sweet dreams, sleep tight. See you in the morning. Call up your friends, set them to work Some to the plough, some to the fork Some to the hay, some to thresh corn Whilst you and I keep ourselves warm Lavender’s blue, lavender’s green When you are King, I shall be Queen I shall be Queen
